Inspired Wedding in British Columbia

Travelling has always been part of the Joanna Li and Paul Chan relations. They met through friends in 2008 - "We actually met a few times before and not even know it," said Joanna - and officially started dating the march. When Joanna moved from British Columbia to London, their relationship just grew stronger, and when Paul visited, they pair enjoyed a holiday weekend, visiting everywhere from Tuscany to Croatia. In 2013, while in Croatia on one of these trips, Paul surprised Joanna with the proposal while sightseeing in Split.

When it came time for their August 23, 2014 wedding, Joanna, who still live abroad, already a pro at communicating across the Atlantic and the planned marriage mainly through email and FaceTime calls. The pair chose La Stella Winery in Osoyoos, British Columbia as their place and invited 80 guests to their event Tuscan inspired. "We liked the style of the Mediterranean area and views of the lake and the mountains," said Joanna. "It was exactly what we envisioned for our wedding." Joanna worked with a circle of creative friends to DIY their wedding invitation suite, which consisted of hand-sewn vintage handkerchiefs and a folded map.


The bride accessorize her strapless gown with Elsa Corsi teardrop earrings, a J. Crew statement necklace, an embellished hair pin from BHLDN, and blush Jimmy Choo heels. For the ceremony, she added a lace-lined Cathedral veil by Promise Couture.


The groom dressed topped gray three-piece suit with a red bowtie and rural wine rose boutonniere. The bride carries a bouquet of garden full of roses, spray roses, dahlias, green and tied with a pink silk ribbon.


Joanna walked down the aisle arm-in-arm with her mother and father to meet Paul at the altar. "I'm not great in the spotlight but I feel so wonderful to know that Paul was at the end waiting for me," he said. "It was almost surreal!" With a 180 degree view of the vineyard, the couple exchanged vows they wrote themselves before exiting to The Verve's hit song "Bittersweet Symphony."


Next, the party moved to the clear-top tent decorated with chandeliers and green wrapped bouquets. "We set up a table of agriculture in the form of U so that our guests could mingle with ease," said the bride. "Our favorite memory of Italian dining al fresco with family and friends so we wanted to create a fun, relaxed environment."



After dinner family-style caprese salad, polenta and wild salmon, the newlyweds cut into three levels of fondant covered their cakes, filled with three flavors: red velvet, vanilla, and chocolate.
